Frequently Asked Questions

What is Interview Coaching?

Interview Coaching provides you with knowledge of the interview process you are facing.  Working 1:1 with our Coach, you will be provided with tailored help and advice, depending on what you need. Interview Coaching can include:
  • Help and advice on how to apply for a job.
  • How to present your resume.
  • How to research a company.
  • How to deal with psychometric tests.
  • How to make the right impression through body language, outfit, tone of voice and grooming.
  • How to come up with answers from your work history to standard questions, competency questions, situational questions and technical questions.
  • What to ask in the interview.
  • How to negotiate an offer.
  • What to look out for in a contract and more.

What it does not do is provide fake answers to questions or help you misrepresent your work history.  This is unethical and bad practice.

It also can't work miracles.  As much as we love to help our clients be successful, if you do not have the experience or qualifications for the job you have applied to, it will be pretty hard to expect our coach to help you be successful in your interview.

How Experienced are you at Interview Coaching?

Our head Interview Coach Clare Reed has 11 years solid interview coaching experience and in total over 23 years of recruitment experience.  She has lived and worked globally in five different countries and cities including London, Dublin, Singapore, Sydney, Dubai and Milan.

Her experience spans across the globe as Head of Recruitment at Deloitte and KPMG, Recruitment Manager at Intel, Resourcing at the NHS, Executive Search at Reed Randall and Talent Branding with Talent Optics and other recruitment roles.  She has professionally interviewed and been involved in the hiring decisions of thousands of candidates.

She has coached thousands of our clients, from all around the world, to interview success.

Why do you separate the Interview Coaching Sessions?

Our interview coaching sessions are split up because there is a lot of information to take in at first.  When we learn something new it can tire our minds a little, so having a break between coaching sessions allows the mind to retain and recall easier. Typically the mock interview is a separate session so that you can prepare for it using all that your learnt and the guidance provided in the first session.

We find our clients do a far better mock interview this way than when time poor and they choose to run the sessions back to back. Having a break to practice what they learnt enables them to do a good mock interview, which increases their confidence for their real interview.

What languages can you Coach in?

We can only coach our clients in English at this time. Clients must be naturally fluent in English or be at an advanced level if English is a second language.

What format is the Interview Coaching in?

All our coaching is on Zoom or Skype or a similar platform of our Clients choosing e.g. Blue Jeans, Go to Meeting etc.

All our coaching is 1:1 by video screen so you can see our coach at all times and she can see you. This enables you to be coached wherever you are in the world.

What are the Technological Requirements?

A good broadband or wifi connection is ideal, if you are using your computer, laptop or tablet.  Make sure all notifications are turned off and all browsing windows are closed to free up bandwith. Social Media eats up data so it is best to turn these apps off too.

If you are using your smartphone make sure you know how to toggle between Skype and the job description or resume, as we will be looking at these in the coaching session. Turn off all other notifications, social media and incoming calls, so you won't be disturbed.

What is your Refund Policy?

Because our coach will have to prepare for your first session our cancellation policy is 12 hours notice before the first session starts.  If the cancellation is outside the 12 hours before the start of the first session there is no refund.  Alternatively, if you reschedule to another date, within a 7 day period of the original booking, then we carry your payment over but we can only do that once.

For subsequent follow up sessions, we offer more flexibility, because sometimes our clients don't know when their real interview is going to take place, so they schedule it directly with us, nearer the date of the interview.

Do you really Coach all over the World?

We offer coaching to anyone who can speak English, no matter where they live.  Because our Head Coach has worked in 5 different countries she is often recommended in those countries by her peers. The online booking system has geo settings, so you can find an appropriate time for coaching in your timezone.  We use Paypal for payments and this automatically converts the payment into your currency.

I don't know when my Interview is.  Should I Book Interview Coaching now?

Most of our clients are pre-empting an upcoming interview without knowing where it will be or the date they will be interviewing.  As long as you are applying sensibly to jobs you can do, it makes sense to get started with Interview Coaching, because you might not get much notice of an interview when it is confirmed.  The mock interview can be conducted at short notice because our sessions are on Skype.  Even if we are on holiday we can jump onto Skype from wherever we are and conduct the mock interview.  That is the beauty of Skype!

What Happens if Zoom/Skype Doesn't Work?

I remember in my old physical office we had to cancel three days of client coaching at short notice because a very loud jack hammer was being used on roadworks outside the office, it made the coaching room walls shake! Over 6 years in the old office we cancelled 9 days of training for all sorts of reasons.  Switching over to Skype is no different than the physical office.  Although in this video conference format it is more likely a problem with Zoom/Skype or Data usage that can interfere with a session this only happens about 1.5 times a year on average.

If we have problems using the software we do a quick diagnostic, which includes checking your end for background applications that may be interfering with the video call.  There are two other providers that we can quickly send you links to if we can't use the one you chose. If the electricity goes down which can happen anywhere, we have a back up mobile generator. Most issues are rectifiable within a few minutes.  But if not we will do our best either to reschedule you to the next day or move to the smartphone for a call instead.

Do I Need to Take Notes in my Interview Coaching Session with you?

Note taking is encouraged, as notes are a great way to remember key coaching points, because you can quickly refer to them. We do email you a tailored interview coaching plan at the start of the first session, so you know what to practice in-between sessions and prepare for in the mock interview.

Can I Record the Session?

Yes that is the beauty of Zoom or Skype!  You can record the coaching for future reference.  All we ask is that you let your Coach know you will be recording the session at the start of the coaching.
