I am an expert interview coach and set up Interview Ready over 13 years ago. Having worked in many corporate companies in the recruitment function, including running award winning talent sourcing teams at both Deloitte and KPMG. I know exactly what answers get interviewers excited and tick the 'hire' box. I also know what answers fail to make an impression.
I began interviewing at 22, when I fell into interviewing by mistake. It was never my intention to be a corporate recruiter, I wanted to be in PR! I soon realised that I was good at it, and it wasn't too far removed from PR either! Because I was good at hiring quality people, I rose to the top fast. My last corporate role was at Deloitte, as Head of Recruitment, and winner of numerous 'Best place to work' awards.
Sadly, the recession in 2009 hit hard, and I found myself becoming more of an HR outsourcing expert, due to the redundancies happening across the world. I made the decision to leave. I set up Interview Ready, because I wanted to help people in their interviews.
It was a refreshing change to be able to help people with their answers, as I used to only be able to listen to interview answers and wince internally in my corporate roles! Finally, I could help people to sell themselves, and articulate their answers, in an impactful way.
Because I want to keep my finger on the pulse, I have always helped corporates and state bodies train their interviewers too, via my corporate training business, Talent Optics.
Over the last 13 years I have honed my interview coaching programmes to the best that they can be today. But I am always updating the coaching, depending on what new trending interview questions and styles are being asked by corporates and state bodies.
Back in 2012 I was one of the first interview coaches to offer online Skype interview coaching. This is critical, as I strongly believe in efficiency and you being able to choose where you are coached, not me. The flexibility of Zoom or Skype (and other video conferencing platforms) means I am fully global, as long as the time zone is compatible. I often start my day interview coaching people in Australia and Singapore, two countries I have worked in previously. I often close my day with clients in Ireland, UK, Europe and the USA.
My clients span the globe and I love doing what I do because interviewing is constantly evolving. It doesn't matter what country you are in, or what level you are at - it is all about making the best impression.
People often ask why didn't I return to corporate recruitment? The answer is, I simply enjoy this more. I get more satisfaction from making a difference to people's lives and seeing their aspirations fulfilled than I ever did in the corporate world.
